Esther Captain Website

Dr. Esther Captain is a historian, working as a researcher at the Centre of the Humanities of Utrecht University as well as the Netherlands Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies in Amsterdam. From 2007 until 2007, she was a manager at the program Heritage of the War at the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport in The Hague as well as a postdoc researcher at the University of Amsterdam. Her latest book was published in September 2010 and is titled Oorlogserfgoed overzee. De erfenis van de Tweede Wereldoorlog in Aruba, Curaçao, Indonesië en Suriname Amsterdam: Bert Bakker, 2010 [Heritage of the War Overseas. The Legacy of World War II in Aruba, Curaçao, Indonesia en Surinam]. She obtained her PhD in 2002 from Utrecht University with a dissertation on the experiences and memories of civilian internees during the Japanese occupation of the Dutch East Indies.
