When she left Dutch politics in January 2011 after twelve and a half years as parliamentarian and leader of the Green Left party, Femke Halsema chose to work freelance. In 2011, she held the Leonardo Chair at Utrecht University. Aside from conducting research as a Professor in the Treaty of Utrecht Chair, Halsema is writing a book and working on a series of documentaries. She also contributes essays to the Dutch daily De Volkskrant. Additionally, Halsema chairs the Supervisory Board of Weekblad PersGroep, the Managing Board of Stichting Vluchteling and the Advisory Board of ASN Bank.
